Alice in Clockwork - Heaven and Earth Designs

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry I've neglected my blog for so long...

But I have been stitching!

Back in September I admitted to my friend Ingrid that I was feeling a bit fed up with my WIPs (works in progress) and that I had been seriously thinking of starting a Heaven and Earth Designs chart (HAED for short).

Funnily enough Ingrid had been thinking the same thing!  And so began our adventure...

On 14 September I started stitching on Alice in Clockwork by Jasmine Beckett Griffith.   The chart was gifted to me a while ago by an inspirational HAED stitcher who blogs at Pull the Other Thread. For those in the know, she is classed as a QS or Quick Stitch, though at 185 stitches wide and 232 stitches high there's still plenty of stitching to be done!

This is what she will look like when finished...

(picture borrowed from HAED website)

And here is my progress after 11 weeks of stitching on her!

I've completed three of the nine pages in the chart which represents the whole of the top row of this design, and roughly 45% of the total of the chart.  I'm stitching her with one thread on 25 count easy guide aida.

I can hardly bear to put her away but today I am treating myself to this new start, the chart for which Ingrid very kindly gave me.  This chart is called Mini Owl Family Portrait by Annya Kai.

There are over 40 rows of DMC 3766 at the top to begin with which should be relaxing to stitch!  I'm looking forward to some bright colours after the browns and golds of Alice.

Hope to be back with you before too long.

Until next time

Justine

Brave brave girl!
It's going to look amazing when it's finished, but the work!

Good luck, can't wait to see the finished piece :-)

Oh wow, you have made great progress! I have a couple of full coverage pieces I have yet to start: part of me is nervous to do so even though everyone says they are easy to work on. Hopefully in the new year I will take the first stitch!
Happy days,
Jenn

There is just "something" about a HAED! Even though there is a lot of actual stitches, they just seem to go quicker IMO. And I do so love Jasmine's work...great pick!

You are an amazingly fast stitcher! Cute pattern too!

So glad to see you posting and see the amazing progress on this huge undertaking, Justine! I can't imagine doing and HAED, but I think at my age, it is more realistic to stick with smaller projects :)

What a great gift you received! Alice looks great and you are making awesome progress on her! I love the Owls too but that is a lot of blue! I am looking forward to seeing your progress on both!

Alice is stunning. I am rather fed up of my wips too, although to b honest I have plenty that tI could start but I do feel rather guilty knowing I have so much left unfinished. x

Let's see... at this pace, you could be done with the Alice HAED around our birthday! I love how it looks so far! I have considered stitching a BAP (similar colors to your owls, but turtles instead!)... I don't think I can stay interested that long. OR I will feel guilty if I change to another project! Can't have that... stitching is supposed to be fun! Plus, I don't know how to park!! Enjoy the stitchings! Thanks for sharing! Hugs!

Alice is awesome! As are the Owls. But the top 40 rows of blue sum up why I don't stitch full coverage, there are so many gorgeous hand dyed fabrics out there to save the time LOL

WOW .. Alice does look fabulous, well done.
Sweet new one, those little owls are so cute.

Oh my, Justine, now I can see why your were so silent on your blog during the last weeks. You have been stitching up a storm!! these HAEDs seem to become really addictive very fast. And now you even have two of them in the works. Great stitching, Justine.

That much done in just 11 weeks - that really is quick stitching, well done! All that blue in your new start sounds tiresome, but sometimes I even enjoy those huge blocks of one colour.

What great progress. And the Owl family look like they'll be great fun to stitch - so colourful x

DMC 3766 is a lovely color! Although 40 rows of it is how many skeins? I would almost be tempted to buy blue fabric haha. Almost. Your Alice looks great too, and that's a lot of progress for a HaED!

You are killing it on Alice!! Well done!
And another HAED! Love it girl. :)

Wow! That's a great progress on Alice! The owl chart is cute but the background is quite large to stitch. I usually don't stitch backgrounds if they aren't compulsory part of the design and if skipping that doesn't make a big difference.

Great to see you back with such a beautiful chart, Alice looks already nice, you must have drink some of this magic bottle. Joyeuses fêtes de Noël ! xxx

Beautiful stitching Justine! Happy to see you are enjoying the HAED's xxx

These are wonderful charts, but I laughed out loud when you wrote that the Alice design was considered a Quick Stitch -- a project like this would take me YEARS to finish. I guess I'll settle for admiring your stitching.

Great progress on your WIP, Justine. The owls are so adorable.

After all this time I finally made it over to see your blog! I'm sorry it has taken me so long! I love owls, all shapes and sizes, so this one brings a smile to my face. And Alice is gorgeous!! What fun stitching!!

Justine, I’m sorry to be so late commenting here!
I have to agree with Beadgirl ..... I nearly choked though when you said “Quick Stitch”, this would take me many years too!
I like the colours in Alice, and your other new start looks so cute!
Hope you are enjoying your stitching.

Barbara xx
