Faithful April

I finished 2015 with 11 projects which had been started but not finished. Now I know this is a lot less than some, but these are all fairly large stitches with many hours of work left on them.

Many of these projects were started in January 2014 when I joined the Crazy January Challenge and had 15 new starts, and some were started in January 2015 as part of Debbie's Crazy January Challenge, in memory of Deborah Faris Bryant.

My goal for 2016 is to reduce this list from 11 to just 5. I've already had two finishes from the list and made progress on two more but one project in particular isn't growing as quickly as I'd like. So I've decided to do something about it.

Cut Thru Rocket by Bothy Threads - not my own work

April is going to be Cut Thru Rocket month. I'm going to work exclusively on this piece for a whole month. Faithful to one project at a time, which is how I used to stitch before I discovered blogging.

I have a goal in mind which is to finish the top 6 pages but I'm not going to beat myself up about it if I don't make it. I just want to make significant progress on this one.

Here's where I'm up to at present, just 14 months after I started.

Started on 2 January 2015, to be continued....

I'll update my blog if there's anything worth showing, and I hope you'll cheer me on.  This one is to be a present for elder son who will soon be 8 years old, so there's some time pressure to stitch it before he is too old to enjoy it!

If anyone else feels like joining me in Faithful April, then let me know. The more the merrier!

Justine

This is one of the few cut-thru's that I don't have but yours looks great Justine. I would join you if I wasn't doing the April A - Z Challenge. I have 2 started.

You are going to do great Justine. I am confident your 7 year old son is super inspiration!

I really like this cut-through, mostly because it's a rocket. I don't have any of them though. You've made a good start and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

I'm stitching on a UFO (I have about 70) for 1/2 hour a day before I do my regular stitching and I'm making good progress that way.

A fun stitching project to work on in April - I am sure you can meet your target and I will certainly offer you encouragement - you helped me so much in that way to complete the baby sampler.

Good luck! I'm sure once you throw yourself into it and see the progress you make from working on it exclusively you will get it finished sooner than you think!

Cheers! I'm working on one with kittens for my niece, who is already 11 years old, and i'm worried I won't get it done before she gets too old for it. Mine is about half done. Maybe I'll join you and dedicate my stitching time in April to one project.

Go for it! That is one amazing project. It will be perfect for a boy's room.

I'm almost always a faithful stitcher lol I can't in April though because this piece is too big to travel with. Good luck!

I like your goal of reducing the number of WIPs. And you already know that I'm one at a time stitcher. I could have joined with my current piece however I'm starting a Mystery SAL on 8th.So I will be cheering for you!

Great progress, Justine!!:) Good that you are managing your WIPs one at a time. I have three projects running currently and based on mood and time availability I pick any one of these to stitch.

How would that fit in with your 366 starts Linda?! Good luck for your A-Z challenge.

Justine said...

Thank you Vickie - he's already asking when it's HIS project's month!

70 UFOs Cathy? You must be very organised!

I will be cheering you on & thinking of you :)
You've inspired me and I will join your fun by also working on a WIP.
You know how much I'd like to see that list being reduced too.

I know you can do it, Justine :) I am a one project at a time stitcher so this would be right up my alley!! Your son will love watching it grow as much as we will...

Happy almost April to you :)

Good for you. I am doing the same thing a the moment, trying to work on one large project to get it finally finished, then another one after that etc. I really have too many projects not finished and need to concentrate a month at a time on individual ones. x

Katie said...

Good luck! I know you will make a lot of progress. Can't wait to see how much.

Your April idea sounds great Justine - I'm sure you'll make some really solid progress with it now... I can't join you in working on only a single project for a month, but you've inspired me for sure!

Great idea to take a whole month to try and get a lot done on this one. I've heeded your advice and not checked the Bothy site. :)

I love the Cut Through Designs, I will enjoy watching your progress. I don't think I could stitch just one thing for a whole month. But I applaud you for doing this and will totally enjoy watching you build this Rocket.

This ideas is really great but I doubt if I could follow through. I once was a one-project stitcher like you but now I have discovered the joys of switching through my WIPs. So I don't know if I could stitch on one project only for a whole month. But I wish you luck with your plan and with your rocket stitching. It's a wonderful project and I'm absolutely sure that you will make a lot of progress on it during April.

The problem with challenges like this is that we are drawn into starting a large projects without realising how long it will take to finish each one. I fell into that trap last year! But you've got a sensible head on your shoulders and have been finishing them up one at a time without starting additional long-term projects. Good luck for Faithful April. If anyone can stick to one project for the whole month it's you!! :)

Emma you're a no-comment reply blogger so I hope you see this reply on my blog. I'm so glad you're joining me and look forward to seeing what you choose to stitch on!

o man, I really, really, really wanted to join in! I thought about FFIII and how I could maybe get it finished (haha) and how to shoehorn it in for GG... and then the knitting group decided to make baby afghan squares aaaaaaaaaaaaa.

These Bothys are so fun to watch grow. I think you'll be very pleased with your progress once April is over :D

Great idea to make some real progress on your rocket. I'm going to be faithful to the letter J this April - Just Nan, J for Joanne and J for the Stitcher's Alphabet from Brooke's Books ready for next month's detention.

I'm joining you this month! I kind of went berserk with starts last month and am now feeling overwhelmed with all my WIPs and new starts I did. So I'm taking a deep breath and slowing this train down! I'm finishing up Ewephoria now, just a few more stitches to do.
