What a difference backstitch makes!

I think it's about time I shared with you a photo of the latest WIP to make it out of the stash cupboard.  Back in January, Jan of Thread Garden and I decided to start up Pirate Wednesday again, our own little SAL which we started to stitch up the Bothy Threads Cut Thru Pirate Ship for our younger sons.  I hope Jan will forgive me but Pirate Wednesdays have turned into Pirate Thursdays and Pirate Fridays for me!  I seem to work best when I can get a few days at once on a project.

Here is where you last saw the Pirate Ship...

Bothy Threads Cut Thru Pirate Ship
Started 6 January 2014

and here it is today!

And just one close up of the pirate kitty!

This is 6 out of 9 pages mostly finished and backstitched.  I'm really pleased with how it's turning out, and the backstitching has really given me some momentum to get this finished in 2016.

Last week I had a little giveaway on my blog for this cute little chart that was gifted to me by Jen last year.  I thought it would be fun to pass it along.  The winner of the chart was...

Jo!

Jo please would you send me your address again and I will get this in the post to you this week.

Jo has promised to stitch this quickly and give it away in time for Easter on her own blog, so if you are interested in the chart then please look out for it there (no pressure Jo!)

That's all from me for now, hope your needles are all busy this week!

Justine

  11. These Cut Through pieces must be a lot of fun to stitch. All these little motifs are fantastic and most of them are humorous too. Like the kitty, and the mermaid, and the pirates, of course, lol. You got a lot stitched on this project. I know that I can't stitch on a project for just one day, I always have to add a couple more days, too.

  25. Pirate Kitty, Pirate Kitty, Pirate Kitty! :D Yay! :D I like that extra toothy fish too. Fish and cat can be friends, I'm sure. Or perhaps the fish is the cause of the peg leg! So much to imagine with this piece; no wonder you can never put it down. Just make every day pirate day haha.

  26. It's bee such a long time since I've stitched a piece that required backstitching, but it truly does bring the stitching to life! Wonderful project, Justine :)

I think it is very beautiful

  29. I hate back stitch at least you are doing it as you stitch rather than leaving it to the end, it really brings the stitching alive

  36. It's looking wonderful !! :) Bothy thread projects have so many tiny things and backstitching those gives a clear and beautiful picture. Stitching small things might have been time consuming but seeing new elements pop out after backstitching is fun too:)
Congrats to Jo for winning the chart!

  37. The pirate ship is looking great! That's a crazy amount of cross stitch, but you're right, it makes such an impact.

  38. Your ship is looking fantastic! The backstitch is essential to do as you go, it helps it look so much more interesting and less to do at the end. Congrats Jo!

  39. Wow your son is just going to love this!
It's been a while since i did anything that required the
dreaded backstitch but it does make a design come alive.
One of the ladies in my stitching group has just completed
a cut through and it does look wonderful.
