How I slayed the Red Dragon (and a little pink poodle)

I have two finishes for you today!

First up is Red Dragon which will be a bookmark for younger son. I stitched most of this last year but was almost defeated by the backstitch, which was barely visible while I was stitching it, and over fractionals too. Cheered on by Thoeria I finally finished this up today...

Looking at the photo on my blog now it looks a lot more impressive than it did while I was working on it!  The backstitch seems to really stand up.  Here's a close up, just for Thoeria...

So the dragon is slain and those fractionals didn't defeat me!

I have been in a "doing" kind of mood this week, you know where you just have those weeks where you just feel on top of things?  So, I got round to finishing our Joan Elliott Calendar SAL piece for February, only 12 days late.  The JEC SAL is hosted by Mii Stitch and there are 5 of us stitchers taking part and attempting to stitch each monthly design from this gorgeous calendar which was a freebie with World of Cross Stitching Magazine at the end of last year.  Here's my finish for February...

Isn't it cute?  It wasn't one of my favourites before I started stitching it, but I really love it now it's done!  Funnily, Mii and I both chose the same 28 count Brittney pink evenweave to stitch on.

Do you like my fabric and trim choices?  Of course, by taking a photo like that I am fooling myself that I will actually get round to finishing this piece at some point, and it won't just join the stitching roll of shame with all my other forgotten pieces.

I'll be back on Sunday for February's Gifted Gorgeousness when I will be sharing some gifts I received this week and also hopefully a Gifted Finish!

Until then

Justine

Big Big BIG congratulations on slaying your dragon. I know what a burden it has been for you but you have stuck with it and that determination looks to be well worthwhile. I just now hope your son likes it!!!
The poodle is fabulous, of course, and looks so much better than the drawing. The fabric and trimmings will work when - once you get round to it! :)

Your finishes are both sweet and spectacular! Love the dragon, he's gorgeous!! I can see where the back stitch could get a little crazy on this design but it was oh so worth it.

YAY!!!! Doing a happy wiggle here in my seat :D This is STUNNING Justine!!! Told you it would be so worth it when it was done :) Your boy is going to love this!! Fantastically amazing :D
That poodle is so cute too! I think your choice of fabric and trims is just right. How will you finish this? A sweet little pillow? A flat fold ornie? Pin thingy? Card? :D Let's see if we can keep this one from joining the "stitching roll of shame" (lol....love that.....mine's the box of shame!)

Congrats on finishing the red Dragon !! Love the JEC SAL finish, very cute !!:)
Your fabric and trims are perfect. Good luck for finishing it.
I am also in the league of unfinished pile collectors. Earlier I had made a goal of finishing at least one in a month, but that never worked.

And great job on finishing that bookmark! I have that pattern and the gryphon one as well, and I don't think I'll be up for them for a long time. HUGE congrats on slaying that one.

This dragon bookmark is so gorgeous. And looking very impressive. I think my son would have liked it as well because he was reading a lot of fantasy and was into dragons a lot when he was much.younger.

OH I love the little poodle that you finished. And you found some nice finishing stuff for it. It would be a pity if this little guy disappeared unfinished in a drawer.

That dragon bookmark is fantastic so congrats on slaying the fractionals and winning back the prince ahaha! The backstitching really does pop in the photos; glad you didn't go crazy with it. I bet your son is lovin' it :D

Love how you and Mii stitched it on that pink fabric; it's perfect for it! Even your purple rikrak ribbon matches the bow! How will you finish it hmmm? Not the pile of mostly completed shame (hiding own pile of shame somewhere in the corner)! :D
